An outfit + five looks for fall

Lace sweatshirt: J. Crew
Wine crops: the Limited
Shoes: Sperry's

This outfit is actually what I wore Sunday, but since I've been a bad blogger and haven't posted in forever here it is now. I won't give too many excuses for not posting except to say that I submitted residency applications Sunday and have been working weird shifts day-after-day in the ER on top of not feeling very well recently. Ok maybe that was too many excuses. But at any rate, I've missed blogging.

Fall is my absolute favorite time of year for style. Nothing quite beats a big chunky scarf, a pair of boots in the perfect shade of grey or brown, or a classy blazer. Here are five of my favorite fall looks floating around Pinterest lately:

1. Booties for the win

2. Classy neutrals

3. Perfect blazer + chambray

4. Pretty lace + heels

5. Chunky houndstooth scarf

Color me Rad 5K + Le weekend

Linking up with Jen like I always do and with Lauren for the first time.

1. First off, sharing some pics from last weekend's Color Me Rad 5K.

Starting with our finish line pic...

2. Before and after...

3. We did it! And ran the whole way like crazies....

So let's throw some colored powder in the air to that! Sidenote that I'm definitely wearing a tutu if we run it again. And it will be pink. Hot pink.

4. Showing off my color....
...my now-pink shoes....

...and my tat...

5. Let's do it again!

Adding two more random quick takes to the mix:

6. I get to met Stephen at the sand dunes after a two week hiatus. The last time we were there was for our Michigan honeymoon the week after our wedding:

So I think it's fitting we are going back just after our first anniversary :)

7. Dansko was so gracious as to send me a pair of their awesome clogs to review and I've been wearing them to the hospital every day since. They are also giving away a pair to one of my readers; you can enter here if you haven't already (the giveaway closes Sunday).

Happy, happy weekend!

Mint jeans 3 ways

I'm joining Audrey's one piece, many ways challenge today. I'll be honest, I haven't gotten much use out of these mint jeans. I knew that they were impractical/trendy when I bought them, so I originally returned them to J. Crew Factory but then re-purchased them when they went a little more on sale. I'm a total sucker for anything mint and they look sooo pretty with navy or chambray...

Numero uno: Mint jeans + chambray dots

 Mint jeans: J. Crew Factor
Shoes: Madewell Skimmer

Numero dos: Mint jeans + neutrals (my fav white shirt)
 Top: Splendid via 6pm.com

Numero tres: Mint jeans + navy stripes + chunky necklace

WIWS + color run preview

Dress: Gap
Shoes: Clarks
Scarf: J. Crew Factory (old)

Sharing what I wore Sunday mass a little late after a long drive back to Michigan yesterday. As much as I loved my rotation in St. Louis, I'm a Michigan girl at heart. It feels good to be back although my ER rotation this month is in southern Michigan which still puts me a good distance away from Stephen.

I've been in the market for a shirt dress for at least a year now, and this one from Gap is just about perfect. I *mostly* avoided shopping while I was in St. Louis but managed to make a quick run into Gap and Anthropologie after Stephen and I ate dinner at the Cheesecake Factory in the mall last weekend. My new resolution is to only purchase things that are on sale, fit right and flatter, versatile (they say that you should be able to come up with 5 ways to wear an item with things already in your closet before you buy it), different from the clothes I already have, and more or less needed. I say more or less because I don't really need anything per say...but it should at least be an item that I've been considering adding to my closet instead of an impulse buy. This dress fit the bill for pretty much everything; although I already have several chambray pieces in my closet, this dress is different and versatile enough that it made the cut. I can't wait to wear it with boots and a chunky cardi or scarf for winter.

I made a detour to Madison on my way from St. Louis to Michigan to run the Color Me Rad 5K that I've been dying to do. It was a serious blast! Here's a couple preview pics (I'll share more later this week):

Before (we're so clean!):                                   After (we're so colorful!):

This is my second post today, which may be a record. You can check out my first post here and enter to win a pair of Danskos (they're amazing).

Why I love my Danskos + Dansko giveaway

Starting with my time working as an ER nurse before I went to med school and continuing with my med school rotations from medicine to OB to surgery, there's one thing that I've noticed all of the specialties have in common: Danskos. And so I have to admit that when Dansko asked if I would review a pair of their clogs and host a giveaway, I was thrilled.

I chose the stapled clog in tooled leather, which I've been eyeing for the last two years. The pattern is fun but they are still a basic black and professional-looking. I've been wearing them to the hospital every day and already gotten lots of compliments :)

Things that I love about my new Danskos:
- They have a pretty pattern
- I can work 12 hours and at the end of the day my legs don't hurt (these shoes have some serious arch support)
- They wipe/clean off easily, and the two specialties that I'm considering, OB and ER, don't exactly lend themselves to white running shoes (which I learned the hard way)

I also don't think that you have to just wear them with scrubs. They work just as well with a pencil skirt...

....or even jeans and a tee.

So whether you're a nursing or medical student, medical professional, teacher, or a busy mom, I think you'll love them. You can check out the stapled clog styles here and the XP clog styles here (leave a comment on this post on which is your fav!) Enter here to win your own pair (and good luck!):

I start my emergency medicine rotation tomorrow which I'm excited about. Although I spent almost two years working as an ER nurse prior to med school, I know that being an ER doc is different, and I think that this rotation will make my decision on whether to pursue ER or OB (residency applications are due in less than two weeks, so let the countdown begin). I don't know if it's possible to love ER quite as much as I love OB, but we shall see...
