Why I love my Danskos + Dansko giveaway

Monday, September 2, 2013

Starting with my time working as an ER nurse before I went to med school and continuing with my med school rotations from medicine to OB to surgery, there's one thing that I've noticed all of the specialties have in common: Danskos. And so I have to admit that when Dansko asked if I would review a pair of their clogs and host a giveaway, I was thrilled.

I chose the stapled clog in tooled leather, which I've been eyeing for the last two years. The pattern is fun but they are still a basic black and professional-looking. I've been wearing them to the hospital every day and already gotten lots of compliments :)

Things that I love about my new Danskos:
- They have a pretty pattern
- I can work 12 hours and at the end of the day my legs don't hurt (these shoes have some serious arch support)
- They wipe/clean off easily, and the two specialties that I'm considering, OB and ER, don't exactly lend themselves to white running shoes (which I learned the hard way)

I also don't think that you have to just wear them with scrubs. They work just as well with a pencil skirt...

....or even jeans and a tee.

So whether you're a nursing or medical student, medical professional, teacher, or a busy mom, I think you'll love them. You can check out the stapled clog styles here and the XP clog styles here (leave a comment on this post on which is your fav!) Enter here to win your own pair (and good luck!):

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I start my emergency medicine rotation tomorrow which I'm excited about. Although I spent almost two years working as an ER nurse prior to med school, I know that being an ER doc is different, and I think that this rotation will make my decision on whether to pursue ER or OB (residency applications are due in less than two weeks, so let the countdown begin). I don't know if it's possible to love ER quite as much as I love OB, but we shall see...

Linking up with Medical Mondays. Happy Labor Day!

  2. Random reader: I like the XP in the simple black patent leather.

I'm from Michigan too and applying right now (my first interview is next Monday at Wayne - AHHH). I'm sure my opinion will change a hundred times over the years but OB/GYN seems so fascinating right now. Good luck with whatever you end up choosing! :)

  3. Ah those are cool! I'd never heard of Danskos before, GreenCross shoes are pretty popular with the medical profession here (in South Africa). Is this giveaway open internationally at all?

    1. Hi!! I checked with Dansko to see if the giveaway was open to international readers and they said U.S./Canada only :( So sorry. Danskos are definitely a staple with docs and nurses here (they're everywhere!)

  5. I love danskos. Before med school, I wouldn't have been caught dead in them, but they are like walking on clouds!!!

  6. I still don't think I could wear them! They look surprisingly good on you in casual outfits too. Thanks for linking up with Medical Mondays.

  7. I have always been scared to try Danskos (clunky reputation and all), but being a teacher and on my feet 90% of the day, I can't help but feel that they would do wonders for my feet! I like the professional XP whiskey burnished full grain clogs.

  8. I seriously LOVE my danskos!!! I'm visiting from Medical Monday, so hello! I'm an RT and would die without my danskos. It's the only thing that saves my knees during my 12 hour shifts. My pair is finally looking a little rough, so I"m really hoping to score a new pair! I'm loving looking back through your past posts! I'll definitely be following :)

    Much love!

  14. I've worn and loved Danskos since my days doing clinical internship/residency at a large urban medical center for my clinical psychology training---when all the nurses and docs were just starting to wear them! Love the ideas for wearing them with "regular" clothes. I'm hard pressed to pick just one style I like best, but I do love the stapled clog Professional in silver opal smooth grain, as well as the black cherry patent and, for super fun, the taupe arabesque leather--so cute! :)

  15. I have super high arches, so I'm always excited about the Mary Jane styles, but classic black brushed leather is something my wardrobe is lacking.

  19. I had these wool, Scandinavian-looking things back in elementary school that were so Heidi looking; I'd written off clogs because of them, I think, until seeing how adorably you styled yours with street clothes. Thanks for the giveaway!

  26. Hey! my names Emerald, I've been following you're blog for about 6 months now, enjoying your discussions on healthcare, medical school, newly married life, christian life and my fave thing!... JCrew and generally adorable style... so I thought I'd finally enter this giveaway because as an ER nurse myself since graduating from school (there was no other possible place in the hospital i could see myself) -- as you know 12 hour work days 2-3 and 4 days in a row are taxing and in addition to that I have lupus/sjogrens and newly diagnosed polymyositis and I'm still going strong at Charleston Area Medical Centers Level I Trauma Center thanks to Dansko's and their most comfortable shoes! Let's not mention the adorable patterns, easily cleanible, and sometimes I like to pair with a pencil skirt, cardi and scarf or boyfriend jeans loose t shirt and scarf for different events and they dress up and down!!!

So in light of your giveaway I currently love in the XP style: the silver anaconda patent! and in the Pro Style (non XP): i love the professional sketch patent i think these would be quite versatile with things other than scrubs!!!

Good luck with your EM rotation tomorrow, I am engaged to a resident myself, who thought he wanted to be a surgeon and at the last minute switched his decision and is currently doing an osteo internship at CAMC, but with plans on staying here for his EM residency.

The decision to go to med school after nursing school was my plan as well but life can sometime get in the way so I'm currently working on my DNP for an ERNP!

With this awesome giveaway, thanks you and Dankso, I just thought I'd also thank you for some incredible reading I get with your blog and I enjoy it somewhat relate to it!

  31. Hi there! I found your blog via the One Piece Many Ways link-up, and who can resist a style blog by a fellow med student? I'm in my third year as well and just finishing up my surgery rotation. Funnily enough, I actually functioned fine on surgery with just sneakers, but I did end up getting a pair of more Mary Jane-esque Danskos (a love of high heels is hard to break!) for rotations where I'll have to be in professional attire. They are absolute MAGIC compared to any other "dress-up" shoes. I spent an entire clinic day in flats once and could barely stand at the end of the day. So much for comfortable!

But even though I have my one pair of Danskos, I certainly would not say no to another. I do quite like the Professional Arabesque clogs. :)

Good luck to you in your rotations! Props to you for being able to maintain a blog during third year!

  35. Hi Erika! I love following your blog. It's funny that you are featuring Dansko clogs this week. My friends have been encouraging me for years to get a pair. But I never have even though I love some of the styles and colors. But this week I had 2 horrendous days (long hours running around on my feet). And my feet said no more. So I have been looking for more comfortable work shoes and I was looking at Dansko clogs. :-) I really like Professional Tooled clog in black and the Professional XP in Expresso Pull up. I am intrigued by the Anaconda. I think I am leaning towards something in a burgundy tone. All that to say, a trip to the store to try on some shoes is in order. Thanks for reminding me that this is a great option. ITA, these shoes go well with a pencil skirt. I am surprised and would not have considered such a pairing. Thanks!
