Five Favorites: Twice edition

Wednesday, November 5, 2014

A couple months ago, Twice contacted me and asked if I would share some outfits and an interview for their Top Twicer feature (you can read it here). I discovered Twice (link for $10 referral credit) a few years ago and since then have found some really great pieces from my favorite brands. For those of you who haven't heard of it, Twice sells gently used clothing from brands including J. Crew (!), Anthropologie, Gap, Banana Republic, and Nordstrom.

Here are five of my favorite Twice finds (and be sure to scroll to the bottom of the post for a chance to win a Twice gift card courtesy of Twice!).

1. I found this Anthropologie dress in one of the new arrivals emails that Twice sent me (they send emails with picks customized by your size and favorite brands). It's different than anything I had in my closet, and a great mustard color. I also love that it has the ease of a dress while giving the illusion of a skirt with a fun printed blouse.

2. I was pretty stoked to find this J. Crew white denim jacket in brand new condition. I found these green skinny cargos at Twice too, also J. Crew. Sidenote that Twice was a great place to find a couple pairs of pants and tops for transitioning back to my regular wardrobe in the postpartum period.

3. This Splendid cardi is so me, and the Anthropologie top underneath was another fun find at a great price.

4. Another great Splendid cardi in one of my favorite colors.

5. I found this Gap blazer brand new with tags from Twice! I had literally seen it only weeks before in the store so I was thrilled. Thrown over a basic dress, it makes a great work outfit.

White denim + 38 weeks, baby

Sunday, May 4, 2014

Another Sunday, another week closer to baby, another maxi skirt (see exhibits A and B). My recipe for 9+ months preggo style is either loose yogas or a maxi skirt (obviously more church appropriate, hence today's outfit), one of my H&M Mama jersey tees, compression tights (see yesterday's post) and maybe a jacket, scarf, and/or fun earrings if I'm feeling especially motivated.

And we are, quite obviously, 38+ weeks. I'm still not really sure how I got to this point, and still a little bit in denial that this little guy is making his appearance any day now. My belly button is probably as close to being an outee that I will ever come, and painfully obvious through shirts (see above). I guess it's just a waiting game now...I have no idea when our little guy will show face. Since the cramping and nausea that kept me awake on Friday night, I haven't really had much of anything to speak of so your guess is as good as mine (and probably much better if you're not a first-time pregnant mom). Right now I'm voting for Mother's Day, which would be so sweet and happens to be 5 days before his due date.

Fav pregnancy tee: H&M
Maxi skirt: J. Crew Factory
Scarf: thrifted

I wasn't so sure on the white denim jacket thing, but then I found this J. Crew one when I was browsing Twice (link to $10 referral credit link here) and it looked just like this one which is approximately $100 more than the one I purchased on Twice. When I got it in the mail, I kind of loved it (and if I didn't, Twice has free returns which are the best - I don't shop on Thredup for that reason). Anyways, I think it'll look great with jeans and a grey tee (or black, or navy, or pretty much any color) and I also like the white-on-white thing. I asked Stephen whether I should wear my regular denim jacket with this outfit or the white one; he voted 100% white.

And a little close up of the jacket and the 38.3 week bump:

Happy Sunday! Hope it's a lovely one.

Another blazer + celebrating the Sisters..

Sunday, May 19, 2013

If my eyes look a little droopy today, it's because we got back from our camping trip this morning. It was both exhausting and refreshing at the same time: 45 degrees doesn't lend itself to great sleep, but it was a gorgeous hike through the woods and our campsite was remotely located right next to a raging river...peaceful. There's also something about hiking in with just a backpack for the night that's very freeing. I'll share some pictures later this week!

If you didn't already guess from this and this post, I've been a little obsessed with blazers lately (they're an easy outfit-maker). I also can't contain my excitement about this blazer: I found it at secondhand on a website Twice (thanks to my cousin Jenny for telling me about it) that is my new favorite place to shop (lots of secondhand J. Crew, Gap, etc.). What is even more exciting than the fact that it is chambray with polka dots is that my friend bought the same blazer from Gap while we were in Madison for $90, and I paid $20 for this one. So to whoever bought this adorable blazer in my size and than changed their mind, thank you.

Today our church had an extra mass celebrating the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres, as it's their 50 year anniversary of working in the United States. The Sisters have a special place in my heart because I spent about a month and half total working with them in Haiti. We worked together in an emergency tent for two weeks in the aftermath of the earthquake in 2010, and I returned twice to work in their medical clinic located in a small town in the mountains of Haiti. Sr. Mary Ann is a physician who works tirelessly in Haiti full-time (she's to my right in the picture below) and Sr. Rosalyn is a nurse (to my left). These women are my heroes.

Sr. Rosalyn and I were reunited today after mass, and she also got to meet Stephen. We were pretty ecstatic to see each other :)
